Cổ Hi Lạp

Cổ Hi Lạp (Hi văn : Ἑλλάς, La văn : Hellas, Hán văn : 古希臘) là thuật ngữ do học giới áp dụng cho vùng văn minh gần tương ứng lĩnh thổ Hi Lạp, Kýpros và Tây phần Thổ Nhĩ Kì hiện đại, thời gian từ năm 3000 TCN tới 600 SCN[1].

Cổ Hi Lạp thường được mệnh danh một trong những cái nôi của văn minh nhân loại bởi sức ảnh hưởng đa lĩnh vực và trường tồn.

Thuật ngữ[sửa]

Địa danh Hellás (Ἑλλάς) vốn phát xuất từ tên gọi Helénē (Ἑλένη), nhân vật vương hậu huyền thoại và là nguyên nhân chiến tranh Troía. Trong thực tế, Hellás tồn tại như phiếm danh, vì Hi Lạp chỉ là liên minh các bang chứ không phải quốc gia cho tới tận thế kỉ XIX.

Ở thời thuộc La Mã, Hi Lạp được gọi Graecia[2]. Khi La Mã đế quốc phân đôi, miền này lại được gọi Rhomania, hay Đông La-mã.

Lịch sử[sửa]

Liên bang Hi Lạp hình thành từ khoảng 3000 năm trước Công Nguyên, gồm những thuộc địa rải rác ven Hắc Hải và Địa Trung Hải. Mãi tới kỉ nguyên Hi Lạp hóa mới có những cuộc chinh phạt sâu vào đại lục, kéo tới tận Cổ Ấn Độ, do Aléxandros Đại Đế thống suất. Nhưng đế quốc này chóng phân liệt rồi lần lượt bị Cổ La Mã nổi lên chinh phục.

Văn hóa[sửa]

Văn minh Cổ Hi Lạp trước hết được Cổ La Mã kế tục và phát huy thêm các giá trị căn bản. Đối với nhân loại, Cổ Hi Lạp góp phần lớn lí thuyết cốt yếu về luật pháp, khoa học, văn nghệ, thể thao và cả tín ngưỡng. Bản thân Cổ Hi Lạp cũng có vị thế là một trong những ngành nghiên cứu ưu tú.
