Hồ Baikal là một hồ nước ngọt nằm trong một đới tách giãn ở đông nam Siberia.[1] Tính trên Trái Đất thì Baikal là hồ của những kỷ lục: cổ nhất (25 triệu năm tuổi), sâu nhất (độ sâu tối đa 1.642 m), và thể tích lớn nhất (23.615 km3).[2] Hồ có chiều dài 636 km và diện tích 31.722 km2.[3]
