Thời đại khởi mông là dụng ngữ học giới đề xuất cho lịch sử Âu châu thế kỉ XVII-XVIII.

Các trứ tác Voltaire được coi là hiện tượng lý thú nhất thời Khởi Mông.

Thuật ngữ[sửa]

Sở dĩ có thuật ngữ thì/thời đại khởi/khải mông[1] bởi giai đoạn này tại Âu châu phát sinh phong trào tân tiến hóa khoa họcvăn nghệ rất sôi động. Đây trực tiếp là thành quả của giai đoạn Phục HưngPhát Kiến. Những yếu nhân phong trào này tin rằng, sự phát triển hợp lý của tri thức có thể giải quyết những vấn đề căn bản của sự thực tồn nhân loại. Lịch sử nhân loại từ lúc này bắt đầu triển khai các trào lưu tư tưởng, tri thức và phương tiện truyền thông để tiến tới tân kì. Do đó, giai đoạn này còn được gọi thời đại lý tính[2].

Trong các văn bản khoa học Việt Nam giữa thế kỉ XX, giai đoạn này thường được gọi sai biệt thời trùng hưng (重興時代), thời khai hóa (開化時代) hoặc thời khai sáng (開創時代), nay đã bỏ.

Lịch sử[sửa]

Hiền triết gia Immanuel Kant khi giảng nghĩa thế nào là lý tính nhân loại trong quá trình tự khởi mông đã mượn thuật ngữ Latin sapere aude, minh diễn là "cầu tri, dám tìm hiểu". Ông cũng đề xuất rằng, Khởi Mông là thời kì khai phóng cuối cùng của nhân loại, tức là từ đây hoàn toàn cứu chuộc con người khỏi sự vô tri và những tư duy ấu trĩ.

Thời đại Khởi Mông căn bản được phân thành 3 tiểu giai đoạn :

  • Giai đoạn đầu (thế kỉ XVII) nhìn chung vẫn trung thành với các nguyên lý thần học Công giáo. Phong trào Khởi Mông hoàn toàn hoạt động tại cực Tây Âu lục, mà trung tâm thường được cho là Pháp.
  • Giai đoạn kế (nửa trước thế kỉ XVIII) : Trào lưu Khởi Mông thoát hẳn tư duy thần quyền để kiến tạo triết lý tự do - bình đẳng - bác ái, từ thời kì này được gắn với lãng mạn chủ nghĩa. Tại các khu vực Bắc Âu, Đông Âu và quanh Địa Trung Hải bắt đầu nhen lên xu hướng bắt chước cuộc Khởi Mông tại Pháp, coi Pháp quốc là hình mẫu lý tưởng cho sự khai phóng trí tuệ.
  • Giai đoạn cuối (nửa sau thế kỉ XVIII) : Cuộc cách mạng công nghiệp phát sinh tại quần đảo Anh khiến hệ giá trị Khởi Mông biến chất, thậm chí tư tưởng lãng mạn dần đối nghịch xu hướng duy lý, ngày càng gây bất lợi cho chính xã hội và tự nhiên. Trào lưu Khởi Mông lúc này trở nên hoàn toàn tiêu cực và bước tới sự điêu tàn. Sự kiện đại cách mạng Pháp thường được sử giới coi là mốc kết thúc thời đại Khởi Mông, tuy rằng nó còn gây ảnh hưởng trong ít năm sau.
